Graduation Coach Campaign

The Client:

A Philadelphia based NPO, created from Mayor Michael Nutter's commitment to increase the city’s high school graduation rate to 80% by 2015 and to double the percentage of college graduates from 18% to 36% by 2018.

In service of that goal, they had a pre-existing Drupal site that IBD was hired to extend to make it more useful for members of their mentor community.

The Solution:

This was actually one of the more tricky jobs that we've had so far. Several custom modules were written to elevate the usefulness of the contrib gem Flag module. The main trick was to have it readily apparent on login a) which events needed more volunteers and b) which events you were personally signed up for.

These were all accomplished by some painstaking Views/Flag module setup, but the fun part was writing some custom theme functions that would read in the number of volunteers as well as the number required for a given event and compare the two. The end result color coded the individual event rows on the main view to allow their volunteers to spot events which still needed help. We almost reached the bottom of Google trying to figure this one out. See the Drupal Stack Exchange for the exciting conclusion.

Other than that, it was standard Views building and theming to match what was actually a whole new site into the design of the pre-existing site. This project was another collaboration with Edgimo.
