On airport security.

"A systemic failure has occurred, and I consider that totally unacceptable," an angry and unusually blunt Obama told reporters near his vacation retreat in Hawaii.

A few points =>

I haven't noticed any change in any security whatsoever in any of the 3 airports in which I've been in the last three days. I am not, nor has anyone that I've talked to been concerned with getting killed by a terrorist. The perp in the case was "subdued by passengers and crew" on the plane.

Flying is miserable. It has been for years by now. The entire process from finding a ride to the airport to getting picked up and certainly everything in between seems as if scientifically designed to exert as much stress on as large a segment of the population as possible. Atlanta's airport sees almost a million flights a year. Belligerence is high.

The "threat level" was already at orange, and probably has been for several months. It was not raised after the attempted attack. This got me to thinking.

Has the Bush/Cheney threat level mechanism actually desensitized us to the possibility of a terrorist threat so thoroughly by this point that even when there is an attack nobody really cares? And if the ultimate goal of the terrorist is to make us afraid, and we're not really that afraid, have we now won the war on terror? None of the security measures in place stopped this asshole, a fellow passenger did. I'm surprised they didn't beat him to a pulp, for if someone were attempting to blow me up on a plane on Christmas day, that's quite likely what I'd be inclined to do. And how much further past the point of diminishing returns are we going to push this quest for airline security? Wouldn't we be safer giving all passengers a set of brass knuckles before they board the plane?

Sign me up for brass

Sign me up for brass knuckles. I travel a lot and it's getting so the next only recourse is strip search and body cavity search. Enough C2 could be shoved up your poop shoot to take out any plane and they ain't finding that without poking around for it. Yes the Bush/Chanzoid alert system is bull and the media feeds the fear machine to sell ad space. Your best recourse is to view acts of terrorism as forces of nature or acts of God if you like. It's all random. There's nothing to fear mostly because things will not change if you are afraid. I don't spend much time being afraid of tornados or any number of random things that can cause me harm so I choose not to worry about flying.

Well said, Mr.

Well said, Mr. Carbone.

Not to mention how big of a pain in the ass it is to fly with an instrument in a hard case!

Take care, fellas.

Timmy, see you on the boat.

Johnny, down another road, perhaps...

On "diminishing returns."

Engles, among others, noted society on a whole is moving toward something called Socialism-stage 2. Further, capitalism is a neccessry "stop" along the route to this utopia. The second stage of socialism is also known as communism.

"But now we are too far from the point, let's step outside and smoke a joint, coin a phrase, join a craize..."

"And if the ultimate goal of the terrorist is to make us afraid, and we're not really that afraid, have we now won the war on terror?"

I sure hope we have declared "Victory" on that war. The thought Bush/Cheney made this happen is slightly unsettling to some of us, no? I believe we, Americans, the world, was going to "win the war on terror," regardless. The precious administration, however, made a mess out of a mess. "I must confess," what would you have done on 9/11? I can't say I would have done any better in his circumstances; and, I don't have the access the president has to information.

I hope Obama and his blunt message is a sign of better leadership in this greatest nation.

in fact, as far as i know,

in fact, as far as i know, the threat level (for flights) hasn't changed from orange for several YEARS.

i agree, flying is miserable. bring back the big bonuses, bring back the falsely inflated economy, bring back the easy loans. people need to start buying luxury cars again. i'm absolutely sick of flying coach and having to pay for drinks at the airport!
