Hey Grubb - Having gone from Programmer to Information Architect in my 25 years in my career as a computer professional I am glad to be able to say that I've been fortunate enough to do many challenging, interesting and creative things in the world of Information Technology. So all is not lost - there are as many aspects and variations to being a computer professional as there are to being a musician. So long as you direct your career into something you find interesting and challenging you'll be fine. It's not all fun and games, and there are definitely some less interesting and innovative tasks that need to be addressed, but that's why they call it, "work."
